July is fast approaching, and we are seeking volunteers for this year’s marvellous Second annual Edge of the Woods Theatre Festival. This year, we have companies from Huntsville, Toronto,  and Montreal.  presenting alternative theatre in four different towns around the Muskoka/Parry Sound district. It’s a great line-up, and to run each night smoothly we need some help.

If you’re interested, here are the details! If you aren’t, please forward this far and wide to people who are!

-We need people from July 9-13, to assist with our kids activity table, help with getting the audience from place to place throughout the evening, moving equipment (this is optional for anyone who can’t lift heavy things), and helping to collect the audience donations that keep the festival afloat.

The dates and venues of the festival are as follows:

Thursday July 9th Heritage River Walk, Burks Falls

Friday July 10th & 11th Town Docks, Huntsville

Sunday July 12th Town Docks, Port Sydney

Monday July 13th Memorial Park, Bracebridge

Activities begin at 6:30pm.  Feature Performances start at 7pm.

-Volunteers need to be on site between 5:30pm and 8:30pm on the night they volunteer. This includes a quick briefing and set-up, so anyone volunteering for more than one night can come later on subsequent nights.

-Perks of volunteering include seeing the whole line-up of shows for free, plus free soup and bread, not to mention our undying gratitude and the satisfaction of helping out a small festival.

If you can help out, email us info@edgeofthewoodstheatre.com or call us at 705-571-4334.

Hope to see you all there!

The Edge of the Woods Theatre Company creates and presents artistic work for, with and about members of the Muskoka/Parry Sound region. Its activities include an annual travelling outdoor theatre event that combines alternative theatre performances, affordable food and arts activities. This event will be presented Five times in 4 different towns in July 2009: Huntsville, Bracebridge, Port Sydney and Burks Falls. The company is engaged in various artistic projects with members and groups from the community. In 2009, they introduced the “Where I’m From Project”, an arts education project that partners students from Huntsville High School with residents of Rogers Cove Retirement Lodge in Huntsville. They will also be working with local youth in August of 2009 on a project involving giant puppets, music and the history of the region.

Edge of the Woods Theatre welcomes participation by all members of the community.  If you are interested in being involved as either a performer, supporter or volunteer, please contact Dan Watson or Christina Serra at

This year’s festival was fantastic!

Thanks to all who came out!

This year we brought together over 150 spectators, 23 professional and community artists and one giant moose.  Three professional performances from Toronto delighted audience members.  We had Irish Dancing, Unicycling, Impromptu Shakespeare Monologues, Mime, and Country, Folk and Classical musicians, all local artists, 14 in all.  Over 50 youth participated in our stilt, puppet making and drama activities, including walking our giant moose down mainstreet Huntsville.  It was a unique and wonderful weekend and its effects reached over 600 people.

Check out what the Forrester had to say!
