This fall we’re offering some very exciting arts activities. Are you, or do you know a community elder interested in creating art? The Seniors Branching Out Program is a chance to participate in free arts activities with professional artists and youth in the community. Upcoming activities include a clown workshop with Cirque du Soleil alumni Helen Donnelly, Digital Photography with teachers and students from Huntsville High School, and recording Radio Dramas to be broadcast on Hunter’s Bay Radio. Renowned Workshop Leader Helen Donnelly has performed around the world with Cirque du Soleil, and her company Foo Productions. Don’t miss your chance to work with this amazing artist! Uncover what lurks beneath the surface…the playful, impish, contrary, curious, tragically delicious you! This intro to the approach of theatrical clowning will make use of the world’s smallest mask – the clown nose. Noses and hats will be provided and worn. This workshop is playful and interactive; get ready for some serious silliness!

Over the past few months we have been working with seniors to turn their stories from the past into Radio Drama plays. There are so many amazing tales, but we can always use more! If you have a great story that you want to share, or if you want to help us record these wonderful stories, contact us. Over the next few months we’ll be recording stories in various locations around Huntsville. Participants of all ages are welcome. The recorded stories will be broadcast on Hunter’s Bay Radio in January 2011.

If you are a senior interested in learning about digital photography, or if you simply just want to get your picture taken, then come on out to Muskoka Traditions Retirement Home on Thursday November 18. The grade 12 Photography class will be there along with their teacher to give you some tips on taking portraits. Mother Nature shined on us almost every night, and luckily the Hockey Arena in Sundridge was available for an unexpected move. We want to thank all the folks from Sundridge, Burks Falls, Port Carling and Huntsville for such a warm reception. Hope to see you next year!
Join us for an afternoon tea social and tap dance lesson. Each session will begin with a fun and easy tap dance routine designed for all levels of mobility and experience. No tap shoes are necessary. Afterwards, share stories with others over tea and treats.

The Edge of the Woods Theatre Company creates and presents artistic work for, with and about members of the Muskoka/Parry Sound region. Its activities include an annual travelling outdoor theatre event that combines alternative theatre performances, affordable food and arts activities. This event will be presented Five times in 4 different towns in July 2009: Huntsville, Bracebridge, Port Sydney and Burks Falls. The company is engaged in various artistic projects with members and groups from the community. In 2009, they introduced the “Where I’m From Project”, an arts education project that partners students from Huntsville High School with residents of Rogers Cove Retirement Lodge in Huntsville. They will also be working with local youth in August of 2009 on a project involving giant puppets, music and the history of the region.
